The Empress

The Empress grows what is entrusted to her and links it to the outside world. She joins creativity, expression and the tending of what grows.

What the card shows

The Empress sits in a field of ripe wheat, the shield with the symbol of Venus resting against her seat. Behind her, the forest closes the horizon and a river crosses the background.

Its light

What grows asks for material and time. Giving an idea a place and a rhythm makes it visible and shareable, and what exists links to the world.

Its shadow

Care scatters when everything receives the same attention. Feeding ten projects at once stops each from taking its shape, and abundance says little about the value produced.

Notes on the symbolism

RWS. Arcana III. The Empress wears a crown of twelve stars, taken from Marian imagery, and her long robe is sown with pomegranates.

What this card invites you to do

Choose one thing you want to grow and give it real space. Water what is planted, measure what grows, and leave the rest fallow.
